Description
Originally published as Jane Eyre: An Autobiography under the pseudonym Currer Bell, Jane Eyre has captivated audiences for generations. When this work burst on the scene, it is thought to have revolutionized the novel as it was known, with its main focus on the growth and development of the eponymous main character through first-person narrative. The novel begins with the orphaned Jane describing her unhappy childhood with her cruel aunt, Mrs. Reed, and cousins. Eventually, as she never wanted to care for Jane, her aunt sends her to a charity-run boarding school. The school is headed by Mr. Brocklehurst, who encourages discipline through weaponized piety, public humiliation, and physical abuse. Despite the harsh circumstances, she befriends fellow student, Helen, and the school’s superintendent, Miss Temple. Both become positive influences in her life and worldview. However, their friendship is cut short as Helen dies and Miss Temple marries and leaves. This prompts Jane to leave as well and she is hired as governess to Adèle, Mr. Rochester’s ward at the remote and isolated Thornfield Hall. As Jane’s relationship with Mr. Rochester deepens, strange and dangerous events start to happen, like a fire in Mr. Rochester’s bed and a house-guest is attacked in the night. No explanation he offers seems entirely satisfying. Will Jane’s love for him be enough to withstand the truth? Included in this edition are the Preface and the Notes included by the author in the third edition in addition to the original dedications. | ASIN : B0D6NCWXJ6 | ISBN13 : 9798891630345.0 | ISBN-13 : 979-8891630345
