Description
Overlooking the sultry waters of the Indian Ocean, the Oyster Box Hotel sits regally on the rocky crags of the eastern cape of South Africa. Built in the 1860s, this historic property is known as the “”Grande Dame of Umhlanga,”” and is the official custodian of the Umhlanga lighthouse. This 86-room luxury hotel has been voted the best hotel in South Africa by culinary and hospitality reviews alike, frequented by royalty like Princes Harry and William of England, the Zulu King Goodwill and Prince Albert II of Monaco, who selected the property for his wedding reception and honeymoon. Renovations by the Royal Carnation Hotel Group have put the hotel on par with some of the best hospitality destinations in the world. The Oyster Box is a pearl on South Africa’s coast, its lighthouse beckoning travellers into the safety and comfort of one of the world’s most sought-after hotels and wellness resorts. AUTHORS: Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi MP is the president of the Inkatha Freedom Party. After completing his studies at the University of Natal, he returned to Mahlabathini in 1953 to take up his hereditary position as Inkosi. In 1970, he was elected by the KwaZulu Assembly as CEO of the Zulu Territorial Authority. In 1972, he became chief executive councillor to the KwaZulu Legislative Assembly and from 1976 to 1994 served as chief minister of KwaZulu. To reignite the struggle for liberation within South Africa following the banning of the ANC and other parties, Prince Buthelezi founded Inkatha Yenkululeko Yesizwe in 1975. He continues to serve as a member of Parliament, as the traditional prime minister to the Zulu monarch and nation, and as the president of the IFP. Wayne Coetzer has been the general manager of The Oyster Box for sixteen years. He studied personnel management in Pietermaritzburg and completed his Certified Hotel Administrator designation in hospitality. He became the in-house trainee at the Champagne Castle Hotel in the Drakensberg under the watchful eye of renowned South African hotelier Conor O’Hagan Ward. He then worked as the director of food and beverage for the newly opened five-star Covent Garden Hotel and later the famous Dukes Hotel in St James’s Square. He has also worked at The Royal Hotel and the Hilton Durban. When he is not busy running The Oyster Box, he can be found fishing with his boys, Jack and Tom, along the coast or in one of the many trout dams in the Natal Midlands. Born and bred in Cape Town, Jane Broughton has been freelancing as a food and travel writer for fifteen years. Travel assignments for Condé Nast Traveller, Robb Report, Travel + Leisure, and Afar have taken her to many of Africa’s iconic destinations, from the Okavango Delta in Botswana to private islands in the Indian Ocean. After studying at the University of Cape Town, Jane worked in book publishing for several years before joining the start-up team that launched House & Garden in South Africa. Working on this title has brought her full circle, back to her first love – books and publishing. | ASIN : 1614287368 | ISBN13 : 9781614287360.0 | ISBN-13 : 978-1614287360
